Richard is qualified to practice Physiotherapy, Acupuncture and Manipulative therapy. He also holds an Acupuncture Masters qualification with the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Warwick, that followed 5 years postgraduate study and research. He is registered with the Health Professions Council as well as the British Acupuncture Council.   Richard has been practicing since 1990, and between 2004 and 2006 Richard was employed as an acupuncturist by HRH the Prince of Wales.   He is an associate teacher with Oxford Brookes University, and in 2005 he became a faculty member of the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Warwick, where he has lectured in clinical skills and currently works as an assessor.

In 2005 Richard set up the charity Physiotherapy Volunteers Overseas. The aim of the charity is to teach local health care professionals, in third world countries, simple rehabilitation and pain relief programmes. He has also worked in China, Mongolia, Indonesia and Honduras.
