Spring and Shine

February 02nd, 2026

With longer days again, it’s time to get out into the garden and the fresh air. Hurray! A bit of warmth on the face and some much-needed activity after the winter lay-off and Christmas indulgence: a dose of nature reinvigorates the body and soul.

Over-Gardening Syndrome!

Make sure you listen to your body as you tackle the bigger garden tasks though. We sometimes get so stuck in, that we can end up causing ourselves a mischief by over-doing it.

Take a break every twenty minutes and remember to stretch before you even start. It is a good idea to break up tasks so that you do a bit of this and a bit of that, rather than working solidly on one thing.

Ploughing on until you get the job fully done can cause an overload on your muscles or joints. The garden has a nasty tendency to fight back, especially if you’re an older person, so give yourself twice as much time, even several days to complete the big tasks, and relax!

If you do need us, chiropractors are trained in the management of musculoskeletal injuries caused by (what I’m calling) over-gardening syndrome as well as sports, general injuries and day-to-day mechanical problems. We treat the whole body and the whole person using simple, effective treatments that do not require medication, equipment, surgery or gimmicks.

Spring into the sunshine this year and look after your precious body and mind! Bring on the sunshine.
