It’s all about the Strawberry Crumble!

July 20th, 2021

Well it’s that time of year when there are so many strawberries in our gardens, hopefully………..or at least to buy, and our Nutritionist, Nicky Seabrook would like to tell us about the benefits of strawberries………….take a look at what she says!

“Strawberries, like other berries are high in fibre but very low in sugar and this makes them the perfect fruit for anyone who is trying to lose weight or who has Diabetes.

Strawberries have also been shown to reduce inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and a recent study found a 50-gram serving of reconstituted freeze-dried strawberries consumed over a period of 12-weeks improved the quality of life for a group of people with osteoarthritis.

Strawberries are one of the best sources of vitamin C and this powerful antioxidant vitamin is an essential tool in our fight against cancer.”

So bearing all this in mind, I decided to make myself a fruit crumble, and I’m sure we all have a recipe for that!? If not, let me know!  I have been fortunate enough to pick lots of strawberries in my garden this year, which is uncharacteristic but we must have had the right weather for them, and not too many slugs around to eat them.  My very kind neighbour gave me some of her rhubarb, so here’s a few pictures of my end results, a strawberry and rhubarb crumble……….possibly with a bit of vanilla icecream, just to cheer us all at the moment!!
